What is uttrd?

uttrd is a free AI text to speech tool that runs in your browser at uttrd.app. It turns written text into natural-sounding narration and lets you download the result as an MP3. There is no credit system, no generation quota, and no account required to create or download audio.

It was built for people who generate speech often enough that per-use billing becomes a problem: video narrators, script writers, and anyone who wants to listen to written text instead of reading it.

How uttrd works

1. Paste your text into the editor. The limit is 4,000 characters per generation.
2. Pick a voice from the library.
3. Set the style using the Tone, Energy, and Pacing controls, or write your own instructions.
4. Press Preview to hear a short sample, or Generate to produce the full audio.

Finished audio plays in the browser and downloads as an MP3. Playback speed is adjustable from 0.5x to 2x.

Is uttrd free?

Yes. Every voice, including the premium voices, is free to use. Generating audio is free. Downloading the MP3 is free. No credit card and no account are required.

There is a fair-use rate cap in place to prevent automated abuse of the API. Normal use will not reach it.

You will see an optional prompt asking you to sign in and save your generations. You can dismiss it and keep using the tool.

What voices does uttrd have?

The newer seven are the ones that follow the Tone, Energy and Pacing controls most closely, which is why they lead the picker. Every voice is free permanently, not for a trial period. Every one can be previewed before you generate a full take, and there is a shuffle option if you want uttrd to pick one for you.

How do I control how a voice sounds?

uttrd uses three style controls that stack:

• Tone. Warm, Confident, Calm, Serious, Playful, or Dramatic.
• Energy. Low-key through Balanced to High.
• Pacing. Slow and clear through Steady to Quick and punchy.

Each control writes into a plain-English instruction box that you can open and edit directly, up to 1,000 characters. So you can either use the controls, write your own direction, or start with the controls and refine the wording by hand.

The combination shows as a single label, for example "Confident, High, Slow and clear," so you can see the exact performance you have set.

Is there a character limit?

Yes. 4,000 characters per generation.

For longer scripts you can split the text into sections and generate each one separately, then join the files in your editor. Longer single-pass generation is planned as a paid feature, because generating long audio in one pass costs significantly more to run than short generations do.

Do I own the audio I make with uttrd?

Yes. Audio you generate with uttrd is yours to keep and use, permanently. That includes commercial and monetized work: YouTube videos, podcasts, client projects, ads, and audiobooks.

You do not lose the right to audio you already made if you stop using uttrd, and uttrd does not revoke it later. Files you have downloaded are yours regardless of what happens to your account or to the service.

What does signing in do?

Signing in with Google adds three things:

• A cloud library that keeps your generations across devices
• Take history, so you can return to something you made earlier
• Shareable links to individual takes

Generation, playback, and download all work without signing in.

What can you use uttrd for?

Because uttrd has no credit system, the cost of a take you decide to throw away is zero. That matters most for serialized video work, where re-running a line until the read is right is normal.
